Former owner of Levin Furniture Robert Levin has agreed to buy his old brand back after the current owners filed for bankruptcy.
According to a statement from Levin, the Pittsburgh based company was sold to Art Van Furniture, LLC in 2017. Though Levin had been working on a deal with the LLC to buy back his company, but after the COVID-91 pandemic hit the region, closed all stores and fired all employees across the company. The LLC filed for bankruptcy on March 8, 2020, and the deal fell apart.
Now Levin is working through Bankruptcy Court and believes the sale will go through in the next two weeks, which will allow select stores to re-open select stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
"We have worked tirelessly over the past two months for an opportunity to buy back the Levin Furniture brand," Robert Levin said in the statement. "My goals have always been to protect as many jobs as possible for Levin associates, and to continue to serve our loyal customers. Today's agreement is the first step in accomplishing those goals."
The deal has Levin becoming the Chairman of the Board, with Matt Schultz and John Schultz as co-CEO's of the new company, according to the statement. The headquarters will still be Pittsburgh based.
"My heart broke when I read the stories of customers who made deposits, and who were left with nothing when the company suddenly closed leaving them with no one to contact for help since all employees had been let go," Levin said.
The new company will help customers who have been unable to get refunds and will find solutions to fill customer's orders.
"Our customers are the heart and soul of Levin Furniture's business." Levin said, "We are going to help them as much as we can."
The announcement of which locations will open this summer will be made after the deal is finalized, the company stated. Customers needing assistance will be able to find updates at the company's website after final approval of the deal.
